Te āheinga - The opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Property Officer to join our team. This role involves wide ranging functions, including but not limited to, administration and management of car parks, street encroachment licences and assigned properties within the Council's lease portfolio. The successful candidate will ensure that all lease renewals, reviews, and negotiations are conducted timely and cost-effectively.

  • To negotiate and prepare leases and licences for Council owned and administered car parks, road reserve, land and buildings and not-for-profit groups using Council administered land and reserves
  • Undertake all lease renewals and rent reviews in a timely manner and as required by occupancy/lease documents
  • Liaise, engage and consider views of the community and mana whenua as appropriate
  • Resolve property and tenancy disputes
  • Undertake acquisition and disposal (including Statutory Land Management actions) of Council property interests in a timely manner
  • To prepare tender documents and manage tender processes for leased properties
  • Ensure that asset registers and property management systems are maintained and up to date and contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of systems and procedures for the efficient management of leases and licences
  • Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation
  • Relevant property tertiary qualification preferred but not essential
  • Relevant experience in a property or similar type role
  • Knowledge of local government property environment helpful but not essential
  • Attention to detail and ensure information is complete and accurate
  • Ability to express oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others
  • Write and present reports and agreements which are clear, concise, and well researched
