Mō te tūranga | About the role
Te Manahuna / Twizel Biodiversity Threats team is looking for a motivated field worker to join us over the next couple of years to help deliver predator control operations in some of our key braided river habitats. This mahi is critical to protecting vulnerable native species such as kakī/black stilt, wrybill, black-fronted tern, banded dotterel and black-billed gull.
The position will be focussed on:
Checking, rebaiting, and maintaining predator traplines across the Tasman, Cass and Godley Rivers and adjoining land.
Recording catch data and contributing to reporting.
Supporting the wider Biodiversity team with other field delivery as required.
At times you will be required to stay away overnight, and this could be up to 3 days in the backcountry, often in remote and rugged terrain.

We’re looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude and a passion for conservation. If you have the following, we are keen to hear from you:
Enjoys working outdoors in rugged, remote terrain.
Strong physical fitness and practical field skills.
Experience with predator trapping and GPS use.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Tech savvy with the ability to learn new systems.
Full driver’s licence.
Qualifications and experience with 4WD and/or LUV
Desirable:
Approved Handlers Certificate and firearms Licence.
Current or recently expired first aid certificate.

The salary range for this position is $60,703 to $66,911 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
