Job Description - Rapid Recovery Vehicle Technician - Christchurch

Working with the AA | Me mahi tahi tatou ki AA

For over 120 years the AA have been helping Kiwis on their adventures! Today, we're one of New Zealand's most respected and trusted brands. From our humble beginnings as a motoring enthusiast's club, the New Zealand AA (Automobile Association) has grown into a large, dynamic organisation offering many services and products to more than a million Members.

And now, we’re building the organisation of the future – more connected, modern, and purpose-driven. We are a business in transformation, with opportunities to work cross-functionally, grow new skills, and make a meaningful impact. We’re investing in our people, platforms, and ways of working to stay ahead of what our Members and customers need.

What You'll Be Doing | Mō te Tūranga

As a Rapid Recovery Vehicle (RRV) Technician, you’ll play a key role in redefining how we support our Members on the roadside. Every day will bring variety as you put your expertise to work helping people get safely back on their way.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert roadside assistance, diagnosing faults and offering the best solution for our Members.
  • Operate the Rapid Recovery Vehicle to safely tow vehicles that can’t be mobilised at the roadside.
  • Conduct accurate pre‑ and post‑tow inspections and ensure vehicles are secured to best‑practice safety standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, keeping Members informed and reassured throughout their experience.
  • Promote AA products and services where appropriate, ensuring Members receive the full benefit of their AA Membership.
  • Use AA systems, tablets and technology to complete job information, payments, and documentation.

This is a Christchurch‑based role where you’ll be out and about, using your technical know‑how to make a real difference for our Members.

About You | Mōu

You’re a skilled automotive professional who enjoys solving problems on the spot and helping people when they need it most. Your calm, practical approach - paired with strong communication skills - means you deliver outstanding service even in challenging situations.

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • An approved Automotive Trade qualification and solid experience diagnosing and repairing vehicle faults.
  • A full Class 1 licence (Class 2 and NZTA V endorsement desirable - training can be provided).
  • Confidence in using Microsoft products, mobile devices and in‑vehicle systems.
  • A commitment to quality customer service and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift up to 30kg.
  • A clean, safe driving record.

If you’re passionate about vehicles, enjoy variety in your day, and want to be part of a supportive, well-respected team, this could be the perfect move.

.

What We Offer | Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou

  • Free AA Membership for you and your whānau
  • A day off for your birthday
  • Work-life balance with a 4-day-on, 4-day-off roster
  • Training available / career development
  • Uniforms, tools and company vehicle
  • Discounted insurance

Here, we offer a lot more than roadside assistance. We're constantly evolving and advancing into new businesses, offering new challenges and a range of opportunities.

Come be part of a trusted Kiwi organisation that’s been guiding life’s journeys for over 110 years. If you’re ready to use your technical skills in a role where no two days are the same—and where you’ll truly make a difference for our Members - we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and help us shape the future of roadside assistance at the AA.

Our teams celebrate diversity and believe that everyone should be able to bring their true selves to work every day.  We want you to feel comfortable to be your authentic self throughout the recruitment process, please feel free to let us know if there is anything you need to allow you to participate equitably.

Our recruitment process is people-led and relationship-focused—we do not use AI to screen or assess applications. Every application is reviewed by a real person, because we value potential, individuality, and the human stories behind each candidate.

We are aware that there will be candidates who are interested in the role but may only feel comfortable to apply if they have ticked all the boxes. We want you to know that if you feel like you don't meet all the requirements, please still get in touch.  We'd love to korero to see if you might be a great fit for the role.
