About the business and the role
Eastern Refuge Society is looking for a qualified social worker to join our Refuge Services team in the Eastern Suburbs of Tāmaki Makaurau.
The successful applicant will hold a gendered analysis to violence and the safety of women and children as paramount to their practice.
We require an active team player, with the ability to perform under pressure and engage victims in processes whereby they are kept safe, supported and provided with the very best interventions, information, advocacy and advice.
Refuge Services Advocates are expected to have a good grasp of basic law surrounding domestic violence and/or family harm and be able to effectively advocate accordingly on behalf of their client/s
The successful applicant should have the ability to effectively work as part of a close team as well as having the ability to be self managing and autonomous in case load management, meeting taskings and reporting deadlines.
A continuing commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Parallel Development and cultural models of practice, as well as professional development within these contexts, should be actively demonstrated and is essential to the role.
Job tasks and responsibilities
We are looking for a warm, empathetic practitioner who can reserve judgement in their practice. The successful applicant will have a solid theoretical framework, as well as learned skills and have excellent written and oratory skills.
The position will increase Refuge based community, residential and crisisline work aligning with policies and protocols of Eastern Refuge and all social work/advocacy undertaken within the role will be of the highest standard.
Working with victims of domestic violence comes with the knowledge that the process for change takes time. Models of practice will be employed that enhance the self determination of women and children and this will be actively demonstrated.
Advocates are expected to have a strong voice on behalf of their client groups and have skills to navigate and often challenge, difficult situations in a respectful and professional manner.
Interview skills and report writing are essential to the role and require a high level of competence.
The successful applicant will have a good grasp of information technology and have the skills necessary to use the Recordbase CMS, as well as excel, word and any other programme necessary for your work, not excluding the internet.
Participation in case consult hui, management, regional and national hui and any required professional development are essential to the role.
Skills and experience
Applicants should have a social work qualification or similar, with experience working in the domestic violence and/or sexual violence sector.
Professional registration will be an advantage to the successful applicant.
