Job Description - Registered Nurse

Stepping Stone Trust is a Charitable Trust that offers a range of community-based support services for adults, youth and families who live in Canterbury and Dunedin. We are currently looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Southern team in Dunedin. This role is fast-paced and dynamic and requires someone with a great work ethic and empathetic mindset geared towards helping support tāngata live full lives.

About the role | Mō Te Tūnga

In this role you will:

  • Provide clinical expertise, assessment and triage of needs to meet the requirements of tāngata.
  • Provide direction for our Support Workers in creating a homely and welcoming space for our tāngata that is supportive of their needs and enables them to lead full lives.
  • Engage with tāngata to assess their health and wellbeing needs and provide plans to meet their care needs. This could include oversight of medication management and short-term care plans.
  • Support and provide direction to unregistered staff and oversee medication management including training of other staff members to administer and short-term plans.
  • Be able to strongly advocate for tāngata in a clinical setting.
  • Develop beneficial professional relationships with GPs and other health professionals.

You will also be a member of the on-call team, both on shift and on a shared roster, that includes covering all SST Southern premises. This position is 40 hours per week, but hours can be negotiated.

In this role you will:

  • Have a relevant Nursing qualification and be registered with Te Kaunihera Tapuhi o Aotearoa| Nursing Council of New Zealand.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the mental health, disability and/or brain injury sectors.
  • A willingness to commit to and support the bicultural journey that Stepping Stone Trust is on as we live out our partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Have a compassionate and caring nature with good communication skills.
  • Be able to work in dynamic and fast paced environments and possess the ability to assess a situation and decide a course of action quickly.
  • Have strong organisational skills for managing your workload alongside good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have confidence in working alongside tāngata and possess an engaging communication style to relate and connect with tāngata and their whānau.
  • Have a strong (intermediate) level of computer literacy.
  • Possess knowledge of / experience in implementing the Medico Alpaca medication system.
  • Have a full, clean driver's license.
