About the Role

As a Registered Nurse working for New Zealand Aged Care Services at Dunedin, you’ll use nursing knowledge and complex nursing judgment to assess health needs and provide care and support to residents in our home. You will have current medical nursing experience and be able to demonstrate resilience, be able to complete all clinical tasks assigned to you and provide a customer service to our residents that is warm and reassuring. Your success will expand our home's reach – helping countless residents and their loved ones feel cared for and supported to live their best life possible. 

You must have Nursing Registration and APC.

Showing compassion means being able to tune in to other people’s distress and feeling a desire to alleviate it. As a result, being caring and empathetic is an absolute must-have in terms of qualities for Registered Nurses. 

• Time management and stamina

Time management skills help you complete your work responsibilities in a timely manner before deadlines. The ability to organize your day and prioritize tasks is vital to a nurse completing all of their job responsibilities each day. Nurses also need stamina.

• Communication

Registered Nurses must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. As part of the team you will be communicating on our behalf and we need Registered Nurses that are able to accurately communicate as well as listen to our Resident’s needs and communicate effectively to relevant team members. 

• Critical thinking and problem solving

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills involve the ability to handle complex situations in the workplace and calmly develop creative solutions. Nurses work in dynamic environments with many variables. Being able to think quickly, weigh pros and cons and make informed decisions with their patient’s life on the line is critical for nurses.

Key Responsibilities 

As a Registered Nurse, you’ll be responsible for:

• Assessing, observing, and speaking to patients
• Recording details and symptoms of patient medical history and current health
• Preparing patients for exams and treatment
• Administering medications and treatments, then monitoring patients for side effects and reactions
• Creating, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans with the medical team
• Performing wound care, such as cleaning and bandaging them
• Assisting in medical procedures as needed
• Operating and monitoring medical equipment
