Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

New Zealand’s leading scholarly publisher is looking for a publishing associate to join its small and collaborative city-based team.

The role provides an outstanding opportunity for a talented individual with a passion for the world of books to make a substantial contribution to the literary landscape of Aotearoa.

You will work closely with the Press team, authors, editors, media and bookstores.

Reporting to the director of Auckland University Press your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Work with the director to develop marketing plans and then execute key marketing activities and provide publicity support for new titles
  • Assist the production manager with copyediting, paging and proofing and, depending upon experience, production manage some titles
  • Assist the director in the preparation of manuscripts and images

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week role, on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $62,400 - $77,800 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

To be successful in this position

  • You will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject and ideally a tertiary qualification in publishing.
  • You will be a highly competent user of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and preferably have experience with ecommerce applications and copyediting skills.
  • You will have well-honed organisational and communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently while playing a full part in the creative teamwork involved in producing award-winning books
