Job Description - Salesforce Engineer

How you’ll make an impact
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Salesforce Engineer to join one of ANZ’s largest and most comprehensive Salesforce implementations. This pivotal role is at the forefront of building, enhancing, and supporting elegant and scalable Salesforce solutions. Working within our expansive and highly customized Salesforce instance, you will be instrumental in driving sustainably excellent engineering. You will thrive in our DevOps-focused environment, contributing to continuous delivery and collaborating seamlessly with hybrid teams spread across numerous cities. You're a hands-on expert in Salesforce development and engineering best practices, passionate about crafting robust and impactful software that truly meets user needs.

What you'll do

    • Software Creation & Quality: Care deeply about customer problems and technical excellence, producing robust, high-quality, and scalable software solutions within the Salesforce platform. Relentlessly automate any manual processes and contribute to technical solution designs that embrace a quality-first approach. Participate actively in code reviews.
    • Testing & Automation: Design and automate testing activities that effectively reveal product quality across a range of risk areas and acceptance criteria. Collaborate with the team and take ownership of quality within your deliverables.
    • Issue Resolution & Support: Triage and solve development and production issues, quickly tracking down root causes. Communicate the impact of problems to stakeholders in terms of business value, helping to set priorities for resolution. Actively participate in incident responses.
    • Engineering Standards & Frameworks: Maintain in-depth knowledge of Xero’s current and emerging engineering standards and practices. Develop and deploy software that consistently meets Xero's high standards.
    • Continuous Improvement & Learning: Maintain knowledge of current and emerging development technologies and methodologies. Develop expertise in one or more programming languages (Apex, JavaScript, Aura, LWC) and ecosystem-specific technologies, contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
    • Infrastructure & Delivery: Maintain and monitor delivery processes, ensuring all software is running as expected and proactively working to prevent customer-facing problems within the production environment.
    • Modern Software Practices: Practice agile software development, occasionally facilitating agile ceremonies. Proactively work to improve team processes and contribute to a cross-functional environment by working towards shared objectives using modern principles and practices.
    • Problem Solving at Scale: Help build and manage software that solves engineering problems at scale. Seek clarity with technical complexities and demonstrate smart ways to automate, making data-driven decisions to release value early and solve customer problems effectively.

Experience

    • Previous experience implementing and supporting Salesforce Sales, Service, and Experience Cloud solutions, ideally in enterprise-level organizations.
    • Intermediate proficiency in the use of one or more Salesforce programming languages: Apex, JavaScript, Aura, Lightning Web Components.
    • Experience with Salesforce development and implementation lifecycle, including deployment tools and processes such as GitHub, SFDX, and DX CLI.
    • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and tooling is beneficial.
    • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and collaborate effectively with others on technical issues.
    • Passion for technology and a strong thirst for learning, coupled with a drive to accomplish tasks efficiently.
    • Salesforce certifications are highly beneficial.
    • Version Control Proficiency: Solid experience with Git for source code management, including branching, merging, and pull requests.
    • Project Management Tools: Practical experience using Jira or similar agile project management tools for tracking work, managing sprints, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
    • Large-Scale Environment: Experience working in large, complex, and highly customized Salesforce instances, understanding the nuances of data volume and platform limits.
