What You’ll Do
Participate in, assist in the development of and train others in Next-generation risk assessment – disinvesting away from binary underwriting and revisioning risk selection utilizing data, AI and curiosity. Modernized underwriting using cutting edge technology to more accurately and quickly assess risk, price and bespoke coverage/terms to profitably grow and manage a book of business.
Oversee ongoing education, mentorship, and professional development initiatives for direct reports. Lead regular training sessions and weekly team meetings to reinforce technical knowledge and best practices. This includes acting as a Subject Matter Expert and key point of contact for escalated underwriting decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage 3-5 direct reports.
Quote and release new and renewal business that has been either referred from the underwriting algorithm or seeking changes that exceed user authority thresholds.
Analyze and approve requested policy changes
Maintain familiarity and compliance with state insurance regulations and ISO rules for all states within assigned underwriting territory
Maintain open, transparent and supportive communications with team members, direct reports and interdivisional partners
Create technical training material for use throughout the company
Actively mentor and develop junior staff ensuring their performance meets expectations and their development goals are achieved
Monitor team’s portfolio composition via reports, audits and inspections
Support Marketing and Human Resource efforts to build and promote Honeycomb
Complete special projects and assignments
Some travel as deemed necessary <25%
Basic Requirements
5+ years of underwriting/insurance experience, management and/or mentorship experience strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
Retail agency relationship preferred
Have an opinion, share your opinion and be open to other opinions
Passion to obtain, develop, retain and employ knowledge – as well as share knowledge
