Job Description - Residential Support Worker (24RSW-C)

Residential Support Worker

  • Permanent / Fulltime / Shiftwork (40 hours) between Monday and Sunday
  • Mt Albert based

Te mahi tūranga | About the role 

As a Residential Support Worker in the Mental Health and Addictions sector, you will play a crucial role in providing care, support, and assistance to individuals living with mental health issues and addiction challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to create a safe and supportive living environment, empower residents to work towards recovery, and foster a sense of community and well-being within the residential setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a trusting and therapeutic relationship with residents.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, meal preparation, and medication management.
  • Support residents in developing life skills, social skills, and coping mechanisms.
  • Promote community integration and participation by organizing and facilitating group outings and recreational activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of residents' progress and support needs
  • Ensure a safe and secure living environment by monitoring and addressing potential safety hazards.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to stay current with best practices in mental health and addictions support.

  • Physically capable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Effective Time Management Skills
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to address the diverse needs of clients.
  • Understanding and ability to work within the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi 

Desired:

  • Previous experience working in the mental health and addictions sector is an asset.
  • A qualification in support work or a related field such as the National Certificate in Mental Health & Wellbeing or equivalent 
  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Consent and undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Consent to being NZ Police and/or Justice vetted
