About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We have an exciting leadership opportunity for a high-performing Second-in-Charge (2IC) for our Logistics team at our Wellington Laboratory. This is a full-time, permanent role of 80 hours per fortnight, reporting directly to the Head of Department.

In this role, you will provide key support to the Head of Department and the wider Logistics team, helping to ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality daily operations across transport, deliveries, and stores. As Second-in-Charge, you will assist in coordinating daily workflows, supporting drivers and store staff, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of dispatch, distribution, and inventory processes.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong organisational and interpersonal skills, proven experience in logistics, transport, or warehouse operations, and a commitment to delivering reliable service. You will actively support the team, promote clear communication, drive process improvements, and help ensure timely deliveries, accurate stock control, and consistent operational performance across the department.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Support the Head of Department in the daily operations of the Logistics team, including transport, dispatch, and stores.

  • Maintain hands-on involvement in deliveries, collections, goods receipting, stock handling, and dispatch processes.

  • Assist with rostering, route planning, workflow coordination, and team development.

  • Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day support to drivers and store personnel.

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of deliveries, collections, inventory management, and documentation.

  • Support quality control measures, adherence to company procedures, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Assist with the management of vehicles, equipment, stock, and operational supplies to ensure smooth daily functioning.

  • Contribute to process improvements, efficiency initiatives, and departmental projects.

  • Collaborate across departments and sites to maintain consistent logistics and distribution practices.

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to supervise, train, and develop staff.

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and customer-focused, with a commitment to high-quality service.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support and guide teams while fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

  • Experience contributing to KPI monitoring and operational improvements in a laboratory setting

  • Experience supporting quality systems and a sound understanding of Health and Safety requirements.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Patient-focused and committed to ongoing professional development for self and supporting the development of others

  • IT proficiency, Word, and Excel

  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
