Aroturuki Tamariki | Independent Children’s Monitor provides oversight of the oranga tamariki system. We check that organisations supporting and working with tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) in the oranga tamariki system are meeting their needs, delivering services effectively, and improving outcomes. We do this by listening to the experiences of those in the system and analysing data, to provide insights that will drive continuous improvement for tamariki and rangatahi – particularly tamariki and rangatahi Māori and tamariki and rangatahi with disabilities.

The Senior Advisor Governance will support the effective operation of the governance function within Aroturuki Tamariki, an independent Crown entity governed by a Board and supported by advice from our Māori advisory group, Te Kāhui.

You will maintain and improve the systems, processes, registers and documentation needed to support robust decisions and advice, meet legislative requirements and reflect good governance practice. You will also support the integrity and continuous improvement of governance operations and develop high-quality governance and advisory group resources as needed.

The Senior Advisor Governance will provide secretariat services for the Board and Te Kāhui including travel support. 

The role reports to the Manager Corporate and Performance and will work closely with kaimahi, leaders, Board and Te Kāhui members to provide clear, practical advice, support high-quality reporting and decision-making, and strengthen connections across the organisation.

Our preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Significant experience supporting the effective operation of a board and/or strategic advisory group.


• Experience providing advice and support to leaders and staff on how to work effectively with a board and/or strategic advisory group.


• Excellent working knowledge of board and organisational obligations under the Crown Entities, Public Service and Public Finance Acts.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and review clear, concise papers, reports, minutes and advice.


• Excellent relationship management, judgement, organisation and time management, with the ability to plan ahead and meet deadlines.

This role will be appointed based on skills and experience. The salary range for this role is $90,742 – 125,957 and we expect to appoint within the range $112,384 – 123,890, based on skills and experience.
