Senior Advisor Māori Engagement

Mō tēnei tūranga – About the role

Southern Institute of Technology| Te Pūkenga (SIT) is focused on supporting equity for all Māori learners across English and Māori medium settings to ensure that their specific and distinct needs are being met and supported. 

The Senior Adviser Māori Engagement provides a Te Ao Māori lens on concurrent programmes, contributing to the design and development of learning initiatives for SIT | Te Pūkenga. 

The Senior Adviser maintains a deliberate focus on equitable student achievement by providing thought leadership and guidance in English and Māori medium education.

Key objectives for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Support SIT to enhance its Māori capability journey.
  • Contribute to plans to support the rollout of new Māori initiatives, developing information tools and resources that build capability and knowledge at SIT | Te Pūkenga
  • Participate in projects to design and develop academic programmes and initiatives. 
  • Identify risks and/or issues and escalate as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide timely, creative, and quality implementation advice and support, as well as practical solutions to support group leadership and teams in implementing policy and programmes that ensure improved outcomes for Māori students.
  • Māori advice/guidance for SIT | Te Pūkenga staff.

Mōhou ake – About you
You will be a dynamic self-starter who can hit the ground running. Have a tertiary or Te Whare Wānanga qualification in education, humanities, and te reo me ōna tikanga Māori. Adult Education qualification would be desirable.

You will also:

  • Have an adequate understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations and needs of Māori.
  • Be a capable writer who can articulate your ideas clearly and concisely in a persuasive way.
  • Have experience in quickly developing an understanding of the context about the insights required and providing advice.
  • Be computer literate and confident in using the Microsoft Office suite, and write and deliver information in various forums and via different media.
  • Be a smart operator and understand how to influence and enable for a broad range of regulatory systems.
  • Deliver work with pace, agility, and impact.
