Senior Architect / Architectural Designer

Isthmus is an award-winning, integrated design studio that blends landscape architecture, urban design and architecture. Established in 1988, we are guided by a clear set of principles, underpinned by our kaupapa to regenerate Aotearoa by connecting land, people and culture.

We now have an opportunity for a Senior Architect or Architectural Designer to join our collaborative studio environment in Tāmaki Makaurau. For this role we are seeking extensive experience in the residential and housing sectors. Experience in education and learning centres would be an advantage.

You’ll be:

• Playing an important leadership role in the team, particularly within the detail and delivery of our multi-unit residential and housing projects.


• Supporting complex jobs with design-led and technically innovative solutions, while understanding the wider project context.


• Applying the breadth of your skills across a role where your creativity and technical ability will come to the fore and continue to grow.

You’ll have:

• Minimum 10years’ experience, with specific expertise in the developed and detailed design and delivery within the multi-unit residential and housing sectors.


• A passion for construction detailing, technical proficiency and documentation best practice with a drive for excellence, innovation and creativity. Experience of working with engineered timber would be beneficial.


• The ability and confidence to make timely decisions.


• Naturally creative and critical thinking, bringing design and planning solutions and using research to inform and test ideas.


• Strong relationship building skills, fostering positive working relationships with our clients, consultants and contractors and acting as a valuable mentor for graduate architects.


• Excitement about collaborating within our “no boundaries” design environment.


• Technical skills across construction techniques & documentation software (ideally with Revit)


• Master planning experience would be advantageous
