Senior Developer (Java/Kafka)

Full-Stack Developer, 12-Month Contract. Java, Kafka and AWS Services are required. Wellington-based. Your new company

There are a number of initiatives and projects that are to be delivered to support the strategy set in place.


Your new role

As a Senior Java Developer, you'll lead the project development team and ensure code quality across various aspects (applications, integrations, automation, scripts, etc.). Your responsibilities include:

• Collaborating closely with the Technical Lead to assess development quality and best practices.
• Advocating for long-term product quality, not just project delivery.
• Balancing commercial realities with quality outcomes by addressing quality issues.
• Escalating technical issues, roadblocks, or project risks to the Project Manager.
• Establishing development processes and ensuring access to relevant tools.
• Mentoring developers and enforcing processes (e.g., pull requests, code reviews).
• Standardising code repositories and management practices.
• Engaging with a community of Lead Developers to ensure alignment and quality.
• Raising complex quality or non-functional code questions within the Lead Developer community.

What you'll need to succeed

• Experience in both Agile and Waterfall software development environments.
• Proficiency in building development pipelines using continuous integration patterns and automation technologies (e.g., Bamboo).

Demonstrable hands-on development skills in the following languages and frameworks:

• Java
• JavaScript (including React-based frameworks like react-admin)
• Spring Framework (Spring Boot)
• RESTful APIs and Microservices
• Maven/Gradle
• Postgres

Must-Have:

• Familiarity with AWS services (Amplify, Lambda, CloudFront, Route 53, EKS, RDS)
• Knowledge of Kafka

  • Integration experience with disparate systems and knowledge of integration patterns and standards.
