Job Description - Senior Electrical Engineer

LMS Energy is Australia’s largest emissions reducer and the national leader in biogas-to-energy and solar on landfill. LMS requires the services of a full-time or part-time Senior Electrical Engineer.

As part of our team, you will collaborate with the Controls and Electrical Engineering teams. Your role will primarily involve designing and commissioning electrical power generation plants, conducting protection and fault level studies, and preparing grid connection requirements with network operators. You’ll play a key role in designing ancillary equipment like switchgear, control panels, distribution boards, and communication systems. This pivotal role drives our renewable energy initiatives, ensuring sustainable and efficient power solutions.

You will be involved in renewable energy generation projects, including solar, biogas generation and battery energy storage systems (BESS) that provide real practical solutions towards meeting energy targets contributing to a more sustainable future. Apply your innovative capability on grid connection projects ranging from 1 to 30MW to optimise energy flow, improve system resilience and reliability and implement demand response technologies. Be creative in developing unique solutions for off grid power supplies and behind the meter solutions that provide a real point of difference.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform professional electrical engineering tasks across the lifecycle of renewable energy projects, from planning to maintenance
  • Create or modify electrical drawings, including single line diagrams, protection diagrams, and control panel schematics, utilising SCADA, PLC, and HMI with Modbus protocols
  • Conduct protection studies, load flow, and fault studies using power systems analysis software
  • Generate design documentation, including earthing and protection systems calculations, cable sizing, Scopes of Work, tender packs, and equipment specifications
  • Design and select primary electrical plant (HV switchgear, Transformers, HV cables) and secondary systems (CTs, VTs, protection devices, tariff metering)
  • Provide operational support through improvements, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and fault finding both remotely and on-site
  • Conduct Risk Management, including the preparation of risk assessments and HAZOP’s
  • Develop commissioning plans, checklists, schedules, and perform testing and verification at suppliers and on-site
  • Implement project management methods to manage schedules and control costs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience (power generation experience desirable) 
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and well-developed problem-solving capabilities
  • Electrical experience in leading and directing teams to achieve project goals efficiently and effectively 
  • Specialise in grid-connected plans using biogas (from digested farm/process waste, sewage, landfill) 
  • Competent in fault analysis and protection system design 
  • Competent in LV & HV circuit design, switchgear and control systems 
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and Codes of Practice applicable to the industry 
  • Certified Professional Engineer (CPEng) qualification or equivalent
  • Australian Drivers Licence
