Job Description - Senior Engineer - Electrical

Company Description

Whakatakoto te tūāpapa | Laying the foundation

At Contact Energy, we’re putting our energy where it matters - into renewable growth that supports Aotearoa’s transition to a low-carbon future. Our Major Projects team is at the heart of this mahi, delivering large-scale infrastructure that will power generations to come. From geothermal developments nestled around Taupō to cutting-edge battery energy storage systems (BESS), we’re building the future of energy, today.

With several major projects on the horizon including new geothermal plants and battery installations, this is an exciting time to join us. These projects are not just about engineering; they’re about creating sustainable, resilient energy solutions that reflect our commitment to Te Taiao and the communities we serve. If you’re passionate about renewable energy and want to be part of something meaningful, nau mai, haere mai.

Job Description

Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the role

This is more than just a job, it’s a chance to shape the future of energy in Aotearoa. As a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Major Projects team, you’ll be a key player in the delivery of complex renewable energy projects. You’ll work closely with contractors, project managers, and our internal experts to ensure our power plants are designed and built to be safe, efficient, and enduring.

You’ll bring your technical expertise to the table, guiding electrical design reviews, supporting decision-making, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards. This is a permanent role, starting with a major project already in motion, but with a long-term view across our renewable pipeline. If you thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy solving complex problems with practical solutions, this could be your next big move.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you

We’re looking for someone who’s technically sharp, relationship-savvy, and ready to roll up their sleeves. Ideally, you’ll have a degree in engineering (electrical preferred), professional registration (CPEng or IntPE), and 5–10 years’ experience in the power sector or similar heavy industry. You’ll know your way around MV/LV systems, rotating equipment, and grid compliance, but if you’re strong in some areas and keen to grow in others, we’d still love to hear from you.

What really matters is your mindset. You’re a team player who values inclusion, curiosity, and respect. You’re confident communicating with a range of stakeholders, and you’re not afraid to offer candid technical advice. You bring energy, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning. If you’re passionate about renewable energy and want to be part of a team that’s making a real difference, we encourage you to apply whether you tick every box or just most of them.

Additional Information

There are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi. Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, bi-annual payments towards Contact Energy products, and more!

Applications close 5pm Friday the 26th of September
