The Opportunity | Te āheinga


We are seeking a Senior Facilities Officer to join our Operational Excellence Group in a full-time, permanent role. This position includes participation in an on-call roster (approximately one weekend per month, with rostered days off).


 


In this pivotal role, you’ll help ensure all Council-owned buildings are maintained to a high standard of operation, presentation, safety and compliance, creating safe, healthy and welcoming environments for staff, tenants, contractors and visitors.


 


You’ll bring your experience to provide operational support and specialist advice across a diverse facilities portfolio - coordinating maintenance activities, monitoring building systems and managing contractor performance.


 


Beyond day-to-day operations, you will play a key part in strengthening team capability, supporting effective service delivery and contributing to continuous improvement within the facilities function.

Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua



  • Maintain buildings, plant, and systems to meet all regulatory, legislative, and Council standards.

  • Respond promptly and effectively to maintenance issues and emergencies.

  • Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, including scheduling, contractor management, and work monitoring.

  • Operate and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS) and oversee security systems (CCTV, access control).

  • Ensure contractor performance and compliance with Council standards and health & safety requirements.

  • Support the delivery of minor projects and asset management activities (condition assessments, renewals planning).

  • Ensure compliance with Council policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

  • Contribute to team performance, customer service, mentoring of Facilities Officers and support vehicle fleet management.


 


 


Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako



  • Sound knowledge of building construction and mechanical systems

  • Building maintenance experience in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and compliance requirements.

  • Fully Compliant NZ Driver’s license.

  • Computer literacy is a must, with MS Office and accounting-based systems.

  • General fitness that is appropriate to the physical demands of the role

  • Experience operating Building Management Systems (BMS) and security systems are desirable.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
