Job Description - Senior Finance Assistant - Competitive Pay

We are searching for an analytical Senior Finance Assistant to join our dedicated team at St Paul's Collegiate School in Hamilton Central, Waikato.
Growing your career as a Full time Senior Finance Assistant is an outstanding opportunity to develop fundamental skills.
If you are strong in research, project management and have the right vision for the job, then apply for the position of Senior Finance Assistant at St Paul's Collegiate School today!

Due to the retirement of one of our four finance team members, we seek a talented individual to come and join us. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Senior Finance Assistant will be responsible for fortnightly payroll processing (for approx 80 staff), run the monthly debtors processes for our two school clubs, and have oversight of our creditors, systems including leading the implementation and embedment of our new purchase order software Alii, as well as ensuring the smooth functioning of various finance processes across multiple cost centres.

This is no back office finance role. We are looking for someone to become a trusted go-to person, developing strong relationships with departments, leaders, and budget holders. We see you getting out of the office to learn about our school and the diverse people we have in it, being approachable and solutions-focused, and providing positive and proactive finance assistance to support our school’s operations.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the fortnightly wages process using iPayroll - liaising with stakeholders to ensure that information is accurate and received on time
  • Assist with budget administration, including uploading budgets and monitoring/reporting on variances - as well as helping budget holders with queries about their budget
  • Provide support for general finance queries and serve as a backup to other team members during absences or busy periods
  • Manage the credit card process, from receipt management to transaction processing
  • General ledger entries and reconciliation
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance systems, processes, and efficiencies
  • Assist with the audit process and queries

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 5 years' experience in a finance role
  • Is an honest, reliable team player who enjoys a laugh
  • Is tech-savvy and proactive in their approach to continuous improvement and system refinement
  • Enjoys the people side of finance - building relationships and working with our internal and external customers to provide exceptional support

Why Join St Paul’s?

St Paul’s is a great place to work, with generous professional development and training, free cooked lunches during term time, great coffee in our newly refurbished staff room, free car parking, and a beautiful campus to work within. Joining our team of over 200 teaching and support staff you will play an important part in contributing to our schools mission to prepare our 850+ students for life in the global environment.

We’re ideally looking for someone to start in mid-July 2024. However, this is flexible if you can start sooner. Full training and a comprehensive handover will be provided. Please note this role works throughout the year; you’ll be rewarded with a competitive salary package, which will include four or five weeks annual leave per annum.

This is a rare opportunity to join our team and make a positive and meaningful contribution in an established and supportive environment.
