Senior Investigator – Evaluations -Auckland 


The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is a highly specialised government department whose mission is to disrupt and deter serious or complex financial crime through prevention, investigation, and prosecution. We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from fraud and corruption.  


We employ a talented team of lawyers, forensic accountants, investigators, and electronic forensic, counter fraud and policy experts to do just that, and, importantly, we have a small corporate services team that supports our operational team. Numbering eighty, we are a cohesive team with a strong sense of justice and a vibrant culture. 



About the role 


We are looking for a Senior Investigator – Evaluations to join our Evaluations team. This is a full time, permanent role based in our Auckland office, located in Commercial Bay in Auckland CBD. 


Our Evaluation Team is the first point of contact for any allegation of financial crime reported to the SFO. Led by a Principal, you will be responsible for assessing complaints and referrals and making recommendations on appropriate actions to address them. You will use your investigation experience and technical knowledge to proactively detect serious or complex fraud, including corruption.  


You will communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including complainants, victims, and other government agenciesAs a member of our wider Detection and Prevention Team, you will share investigation and case learnings to enhance prevention activities. 



About you 


To be successful in this role, you will have significant investigative experience with the technical knowledge and skills  to detect and investigate serious or complex financial crime. You will have either, experience as a qualified Detective with a law enforcement agency, or as a fraud investigator with a government agency, regulator, or financial institution. You will be known for your thoroughness, dependability, and sound judgement, and retain these attributes when working within time constraints and on matters of significance.  


You will have a comprehensive understanding of how business activity is documented, recorded, reported, managed, and controlled – and critically know when things don’t look right. You are articulate and can effectively explain and document business information and the results of your investigating analysis, particularly to those who are not experts in this field.
