The Ministry of Justice is establishing a Firearms Policy team to deliver major reform of firearms law. We have three fixed-term opportunities for experienced Senior Policy Advisors through to December 2026 . The team is located in the Civil and Constitutional Unit in the Policy Group.
Firearms Policy team
The Firearms Policy Team is a new team being set up to deliver on the coalition agreement to reform firearms law to provide for greater protection of public safety and simplify regulatory requirements. This involves amending regulation of clubs and ranges, reviewing the Firearms Registry, transferring the Firearms Safety Authority, and ultimately a full re-write of the Arms Act 1983.
As a senior policy advisor, you will bring deep policy experience to lead work streams within the overall firearms law reform programme. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced environment and able to hit the ground running.

The appointing salary for a Senior Policy Advisor is between $110,776 - $143,388 based on skills and experience.
