About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to help us unlock our ‘next-generation’ user experience and interface. Using cutting edge technology and technique, you’ll help explore the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning for our customers, creating an experience that surpasses expectations and sets a new benchmark for crime intelligence.

You will be joining our highly collaborative Product team who are responsible for shipping great product, from idea through to delivery, playing a critical role of designing the experiences we provide our customers, enabling our business to scale and take our software to the world.

At Auror, our Product squad work in streams. We currently have 7 streams of work and each stream has representatives from each team - this includes Product Manager, Product Design, Quality Assurance and Software Engineering. This way of working encourages and fosters collaboration amongst the team.

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Supporting the Product Squad to design a next-generation user experience by taking high level requirements, working them through an integrated and research focused design process to create exceptional experiences for our customers.
  • Being involved in the end-to-end process of designing products from discovery, research, testing, launching and post-launch improvements. This includes partnering with a number of different people, internally and externally and bringing them along the journey.
  • Partnering with our current and prospective customers, including household name retailers and law enforcement agencies to shape how we can reduce crime in our communities.
  • Shaping the design practice, whether it’s internally with the design team or the wider business and contributing to developing best practices for our teams.
  • Being an expert in visual design tools, such as Figma, including experience in creating and sharing interactive prototypes and design systems.
  • Having a strong understanding of the ethical impact of the work undertaken, with a responsibility to create tools and services for good, and an ability to consider the wider implications of how your work can affect our users, law enforcement and most importantly, the people whose information is stored on our platform on behalf of our customers.

This role reports to

Hayden Raw - Director of Product Design

An interface design native, I've worked on projects spanning game design, graphic design, UI/UX design, and product and service design for a range of digital agencies, start ups and government agencies. The projects I've worked on have spanned fin-tech, recruitment-tech, the energy sector, and government interventions for small business, but have all been bound by using a strategic approach to design.

Trained under a founding member of the Memphis design movement, my design style is a colourful deconstruction of form and function, grounded in simplicity. I love a design that challenges my priors, and breaks the “sea of same” we live in.

Brought up on the beautiful Ōtākau Kuiti (Peninsula area of Dunedin, NZ), I've recently moved back from Auckland to help ageing family members program their VCR's. Central Otago is my happy place; Where you're just as likely to find me in the hills on my mountain bike, as you are curled up with a Pinot and a pop-science book about how we live in a self-induced hallucination. Check out my LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/haydenraw/

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Are pragmatic in your approach and find looking at the big picture and acting iteratively your happy place
  • Are across all the latest and greatest technologies and methodologies within the design world and you have a modern style that suits a global enterprise platform
  • Are comfortable taking high level written requirements and rough wireframes and designing beautiful experiences for our retailers and the police
  • Have experience running a design process with user research, user flow, prototyping, co-design etc that enables you to make the best decisions for the business and our customers
  • Enjoy variety in your role - you’re happy regardless of whether you’re doing rough sketches or pixel-perfect high fidelity designs
  • Have expertise in visual design tools – I.E. Figma
  • Enjoy collaborating with others and have experience working with a range of stakeholders from the Co-CEO’s to Customer Success and Sales to Engineers and Product Managers

We are looking for people who demonstrate a strong alignment to our Guiding Principles (you can find these on our Careers page).

With diversity and inclusion at the forefront of Auror’s guiding principles, we promote a culture that celebrates diversity and inclusiveness at Auror, regardless of, but not limited to, race, gender, sexual orientation, family status, religion, ethnicity, national origin, physical disability, veteran status, or age.

  • Competitive Salary Range: Depending on level of experience $110,000-$134,000 (IC3)
  • Employee share scheme: You’ll own part of a company making a real difference!
  • Flexibility: We are hard-working and outcome focused, but recognise there is more to life than work. We promote a healthy work/life blend.
  • Shorter work weeks (at full pay): Everyone gets Friday afternoons off, so you can start your weekend early, and do more of whatever it is that makes you happy.
  • Focus on mental and physical health: We understand how vital our health is and have policies to support your wellness, including: Wellness Days,  and up to three expert sessions paid for every year.
  • NiB Health Care Plan: Auror covers 100% of the cost of your individual health insurance plan.
  • Family-friendly: We offer comprehensive parental leave and benefits for primary and non-primary caregivers, including a baby bonus and meals delivered to your door.
  • Personal growth: We support our team to participate in courses, conferences, or events that will help them develop their skills.
  • Team love: We have regular team lunches and social events where most (if not all) activities are during work hours.

If you’re excited about our mission and you have the experience and a passion for this role, please hit “Apply”.

If you’re not sure that you tick all the boxes but feel you’re close to what we’re looking for, please apply anyway! We’re proud that Auror is a place where everyone can learn and grow so we’d love to hear from you.

You'll be asked to submit a cover letter as part of your application. While this is optional we do encourage it, as we find cover letters can tell a story that resumes alone often cannot. Our hiring team love to understand what attracted you to this role and why you are excited about the opportunity to join Auror.

Once you apply, you’ll hear from us to acknowledge your application. If you have questions about any of the above, or if you have any accessibility requirements, we’ll be able to help you from there.
