Te mahi/The role

We are looking to appoint two outstanding permanent staff\: a full-time Pūkeka/Pūkeka Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) with research expertise and specialist expertise in mathematics education AND a full-time Tauira Mātāmua Riteka Kaio (Senior Professional Practice Fellow) with expertise across the primary curriculum. The successful candidates will be able to teach across a range of curriculum areas, and to contribute to teaching across our Initial Teacher Education and Education Studies programmes. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to culturally sustaining practice. Expertise in Pacific education and/or proficiency in te reo Māori is highly desirable.

The successful candidates will teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in Initial Teacher Education and Education Studies papers. If appointed as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will also supervise postgraduate research students and develop your own programme of research. If you are a New Zealand registered teacher, you may also visit Initial Teacher Education students on professional experience.

The exact nature of the appointments will depend on the successful candidates’ skills and experience.

Kā Pūkeka me kā Wheako/Skills and Experience

The successful candidates will be expected to have:

•    Specialist expertise in mathematics education and/or primary curriculum.
•    Demonstrated ability to contribute to teaching across a range of curriculum areas within Initial Teacher Education and Education Studies programmes.
•    Understanding of and experience in the New Zealand education sector.
•    Evidence of an ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
•    Demonstrated commitment to the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and to equal opportunity.
•    A commitment to developing collaborative working relationships with colleagues and to supporting the University’s Māori, Pacific, and Sustainability strategic frameworks.
•    Expertise in Pacific education and/or proficiency in te reo Māori (desirable).

Pūkeka/Pūkeka Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer)

As a Pūkeka/Pūkeka Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer), you will be expected to actively engage in research. You will also be actively involved in the recruitment of new research students and applying for and receiving external research funding.

If appointed as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, to be successful in this role you will have:
•    A PhD degree. 
•    Demonstrated teaching experience at tertiary level.
•    Relevant research experience and a corresponding publication record.
•    New Zealand teacher registration and a current full practising certificate are desirable.

Tauira Mātāmua Riteka Kaio (Senior Professional Practice Fellow)

If appointed as a Tauira Mātāmua Riteka Kaio (Senior Professional Practice Fellow), you will be expected to contribute to our programmes in ways that reinforce and promote inter-dependence between teaching, research and professional practice.  

If appointed as a Senior Professional Practice Fellow, to be successful in this role you will have:
•    A Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification (desirable).
•    A relevant teaching qualification and New Zealand teacher registration with a current full practising certificate. 
•    Relevant professional experience in a primary school setting.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience supporting students to develop the knowledge and skills to work in culturally sustaining ways with Māori and Pacific communities.
