Job Description - Senior Project Manager: Industrial / Health Sector

About Frequency

Frequency is a New Zealand-owned and operated specialist project advisory consultancy that has been optimising Kiwi infrastructure for over a decade. At Frequency, we work in close partnership with every client, providing access to experienced, senior people from day one. Our expertise spans multiple sectors including Health, Education, Transport, Airports, Ports, and Water Infrastructure.

We believe it’s our responsibility to share real-world knowledge, leaving our clients better equipped to navigate New Zealand’s complex project pathways.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an accomplished Senior Project Manager to join our growing Industrial Service Line, with a strong focus on health sector projects and critical building services upgrades in complex brownfield environments.

This role can be based in Auckland, Tauranga, or Wellington, and we are open to supporting relocation for the right candidate. You’ll be leading the planning, coordination, and execution of critical infrastructure projects where resilience, continuity of service, and safety are paramount.

At Frequency, you’ll be empowered to take ownership of your projects from inception through to completion, working alongside expert consultants and passionate clients in one of the country’s most important sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful delivery of critical building services projects in operational environments (e.g. hospitals or industrial facilities).

  • Plan and manage complex project scopes, particularly involving mechanical, electrical, and controls (BMS) systems.

  • Drive disruption and outage planning to minimise service interruptions during upgrades or replacements.

  • Oversee the commissioning, testing, and handover of upgraded systems with precision and care.

  • Manage multiple stakeholders, including clinicians, engineers, contractors, and facility operators.

  • Actively engage with clients, understanding their needs and objectives, and maintaining strong relationships.

  • Contribute to supply chain strategy, including procurement of consultants and contractors.

  • Provide leadership across design development, through concept, detailed design, and construction documentation.

  • Administer contracts and manage project financials, risk, and performance metrics.

  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to team members, promoting professional growth and development.

About You

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in project delivery, with a focus on building services, healthcare, or industrial environments.

  • Strong technical background, ideally in mechanical or electrical engineering or from a contractor-side role.

  • Proven track record leading projects in live operational environments, with excellent risk and disruption planning skills.

  • Deep understanding of building services design, systems integration, and controls.

  • Skilled in managing multidisciplinary teams and maintaining strong client relationships.

  • Familiarity with contract formation and administration across a range of standard NZ contract types.

  • Experience with health projects is preferred but not essential.

  • Highly developed communication and problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative and proactive mindset.

Why Join the Frequency Whānau?

At Frequency, we believe in the power of genuine, in-person collaboration. Our office-first culture supports real-time learning, strong team dynamics, and agile problem-solving. While we offer flexibility when needed, our preference is to work side-by-side in our shared spaces—where ideas are sparked, challenges are tackled head-on, and relationships are built.

We also offer:

  • 5 weeks of annual leave

  • 4% employer KiwiSaver contribution

  • EAP support for you and your whānau

  • Annual company retreat and Learning & Development Forum

  • Ongoing support for your learning and development, including company-wide forums, individual training budgets and professional memberships.

  • Relocation support available for candidates moving to Auckland, Tauranga, or Wellington.
