About Us

Urban Intelligence was established three years ago with the mission of enabling evidence-based decisions in the climate and risk management space. The communities we serve, including councils, central government, iwi, and infrastructure managers, are all tasked with making critical decisions related to the risks associated with climate change. To make these decisions, the information on risks needs to be accessible and up to date.  The Resilience Explorer (REx), an interactive, user-tailored platform for scenario testing and risk-informed decision-making, was developed to support those decision makers.  It helps our communities tackle climate challenges and build resilience, not just here in Aotearoa New Zealand, but worldwide. Our goal is to ensure we create a resilient world for future generations, and utilising REx is a key enabler of this objective.

About You

You will have an excellent understanding of the climate challenges that we are faced with, and a passion to do something about it.  You will also have a proven track record of being innovative and a problem-solver extraordinaire.  You will have well developed analytical, and written skills.  You really know how to connect with people, whether it be clients or colleagues.  You will have familiarity with hazards, infrastructure and people.  Essential to this role is the ability to code in python, so you will have extensive experience using this coding language.

Ideally you will have experience in leading a team, and if not, a desire to do so.  As a team lead you will be providing guidance and coaching, offering support, feedback and advice to team members.  

About the Role

This role is highly technical, and your team of analysts will be seeking technical guidance from you on an ongoing basis.   From a technical perspective you will:

• Understand the needs of the project and show initiative whilst demonstrating creative leadership in finding solutions.
• Be responsible for deliverables being produced on time.
• Be required to review the technical outputs to ensure they meet our quality standards.
• Share your technical knowledge with the wider team.
• Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with your colleagues and clients.
• Foster strong client relationships, ensuring you represent the company in a professional manner at all times.

From a team leadership perspective, you will:

• Lead a team of individuals to achieve project goals and objectives.
• Manage resources to ensure that projects are completed on time.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members and ensure that they have the necessary resources and support to complete them.
• Develop and maintain a positive team culture that promotes open communication, collaboration, and accountability.
• Provide guidance and coaching, by offering support, feedback and advice to team members to enable development of skills.
• Set team goals, objectives, and performance metrics, and regularly assess and report on team performance.  Address any performance issues.
•  Motivate and inspire team members, recognising and celebrating their achievements, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelors or post-graduate degree in Engineering or Geography .
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Python Developer including GIS/spatial programming and database management.
• Experience with leading and managing a team of analysts or highly technical people.
• Demonstrated ability to explore innovative technologies and approaches for problem solving.
• Great client relationship building skills, so we know you can really connect with our clients.
• Strong written communication skills.
• An exceptional eye for detail.
