About the Role 

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer for a fixed-term contract starting immediately running through to 30 June 2027.  

As a Senior Software Engineer you will provide subject matter expert advice, manage complex projects, and guide the design and development of systems used for network and device data collection, management automation, and monitoring.   This role plays a key part in supporting product design and operational needs, ensuring our solutions are robust, scalable, and fit for purpose.

What you will be doing

Give sound technical advice on system designs and network data tools.  Manage development projects from the initial research phase right through to building and releasing them.  Work alongside both technical and non-technical teammates in an agile environment.  Write clear, simple documentation and look for ways we can improve our codebase and processes.

What you will need to be successful: 

• Strong modern development in Node.js and Angular.


• Practical knowledge of building and using REST APIs, managing your work in Git, and setting up basic CI/CD pipelines and unit tests. 


• Hands-on with data stores such as MongoDB, MySQL, MS SQL, ElasticSearch.


• Comfortable collaborating with non‑technical stakeholders in agile teams; excellent communication and technical writing.


• Nice to have: Docker/Kubernetes/containers, code deployment tools, TypeScript, and UX/UI for operational dashboards.

You are a proactive self-starter who is happy working independently or figuring things out alongside a team. You enjoy solving real-world, practical problems and want to use your engineering skills to do something meaningful for the New Zealand education sector.
