Job Description - Shepherd General - Haycocks Farm

THE OPPORTUNITY

Your work will be hands-on and varied, including:

  • Livestock/pasture management and animal health

  • Feed budgeting – working closely with the Stock Manager and Farm Manager

  • General farm maintenance and fencing

  • Maintaining records and ensuring environmental compliance

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a practical, outdoor environment and brings a strong health and safety mindset to all they do.

ABOUT US

Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a State-Owned Enterprise with over 110 farms across New Zealand. Our purpose is to lead the delivery of innovative and sustainable agriculture solutions for future generations.

THE FARM

Haycocks Station is in the Mavora Valley 40 km from Te Anau and an hour and a half from either Invercargill or Queenstown. We’re a 6,242 effective ha livestock property running 39,000 su including 5,500 red deer hinds, 14,000 sheep and 1,900 Angus breeding cows.  There is 3,000 hectares of hill country and 3,242 hectares of flat to rolling country.

ABOUT YOU

You have a genuine passion for farming, stockmanship and working with dogs, and are eager to keep learning and progressing your career. 

You will:

  • Enjoy working with animals and take their welfare seriously

  • You will have a team of capable working dogs 

  • Be organised, reliable, and self-motivated in your daily tasks

  • Communicate clearly and work well as part of a team

  • Be comfortable keeping accurate records and using farm technology (or keen to learn)

  • Take a proactive approach to health, safety, and looking after farm assets

  • Have a valid restricted or full driver licence
