Job Description - Site Engineer

Role Title: Site Engineer

Location:  Queenstown Lakes & Central Otago

Contract Type: Permanent Full Time

Nau mai, haere mai ki a Fulton Hogan | Join us at Fulton Hogan

We’re looking for a Site Engineer to join our construction team working across Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes. You’ll help plan, set out and deliver day-to-day construction activities on site, keeping quality, safety and programme tightly aligned as we deliver key infrastructure for these fast-growing communities.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Site Engineer, you’ll be out on our Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes projects, not stuck behind a desk. You’ll support planning and set-out, track progress against programme, and help solve the real-world problems that come with live civil construction sites.

You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with supervisors, field crew and subcontractors, making sure designs are built right first time. Your work will directly support safer roads, stronger communities and Good Work across the region.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day site engineering tasks, including set-out, measurements and quality checks.

  • Support the Site Manager and Supervisors to plan work, sequence activities and keep to programme.

  • Prepare and maintain site documentation, including QA records, as-builts, daily diaries and reports.

  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team to resolve onsite issues quickly and safely.

  • Monitor construction progress, identify risks or clashes early, and help drive practical solutions.

  • Champion a strong health, safety and environmental culture on site, leading by example.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience in a site-based engineering role within civil infrastructure, roading, structures or similar (internships and early-career experience welcome).

  • Confidence using surveying / set-out equipment and reading drawings and specifications.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities across multi-site projects.

  • A collaborative, team-focused approach – you’re happy to roll up your sleeves and spend plenty of time out on site.

  • Proactive, safety-focused mindset and able to carry out the inherent requirements of the role, including hands-on, outdoor work in varying Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes weather conditions.

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with field crew, subcontractors and clients.

He pai te mahi, he pai ngā painga | Good work, good benefits

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us. You’ll have access to:

  • Medical insurance and Life insurance after the eligibility period.

  • KiwiSaver employer contributions after service milestones, up to 7%.

  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.

  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers.
