Software Engineer Internships - Summer 2025/26

Over the past twenty years Phocas has grown from a small UK based start-up, to 300 people and 6 offices across the world, with headquarters in Sydney, Australia. In 2019 we set up our Christchurch Product & Development centre - building a team of world-class talent to continue to expand our suite of ground-breaking data analytics & financial planning products.

We’re now looking for a couple of interns to join our fun, friendly team over the summer. Think you might be a good fit?

You’ll be working in a pair on one of two projects that will have real impact for our team and our customers:

• User Analytics Project: Help us collect and visualise user interaction data across our products using AWS and internal tools. Your work will enable administrators to see how people are using Phocas, and which features are getting the most love. 
• Developer Tooling Project: Make life easier for our engineers! You’ll take a distributed service, built with a bunch of AWS technologies, and wrap it up into a neat container. This will simplify the development experience for teams building apps that rely on it. 

You’ll be supported by experienced mentors, get hands-on with modern tools and practices, and have a lot of fun along the way.

You must be:

• in your penultimate year of a software engineering or computer science degree
• based in New Zealand with valid working rights and studying at an NZ University (or other tertiary education institution)
• curious and keen to learn
• someone who loves collaborating with others to solve challenging problems

Bonus points for:

• an outstanding academic record, interesting personal projects, industry experience or a particularly unusual hobby
• an interest in, passion for or experience with data analytics and/or accounting & finance

Other things you need to know:

• internships run for 10 weeks/400 hours, starting end November
• we shut down between Christmas and the New Year
• we think it's important for our interns to come into the office every day, so you have plenty of help, support and learning opportunities
• our office is centrally located in Sydenham (near the Colombo). We have plenty of parking on site for four, two and one wheeled methods of transport
