Who we are and what we do

Based in sunny Bay of Plenty, Quayside manages a $2.8b investment portfolio, managing assets for the communities of the Bay of Plenty, with the Regional Council as our sole shareholder.

Our purpose is to grow a responsible and diversified fund that generates long term returns to support the growth and prosperity of the Bay of Plenty. Our diverse assets include a majority stake in the Port of Tauranga, a global equity portfolio, private equity investments, commercial properties and the exciting Rangiuru Business Park development near Te Puke. 

This is an exciting time for us as we look to execute on a recently refined strategy with a focus on commercial and social outcomes, including responsible investment. 

The nuts and bolts

Our days are as varied as our investments – and as a team, we aren’t boring!

We are looking for a proactive solicitor to help manage our in-house legal advice across the entire business. Work across commercial, property and corporate matters, NZX and Local Government Act compliance, governance matters and more. This is a varied role that will have you working collaboratively with the wider business, no two days will be the same.

You will be a self-starter with approximately 4 years legal experience gained in commercial or property law, in private practice or inhouse.  This role reports to our General Counsel.  We are a small but mighty team so there’s plenty of scope to get involved in your interests!

What’s a typical week?

  • Providing sharp, solution focused legal advice on a wide range of commercial transactions, land development, company law and local government issues, NZX regulations, procurement and more
  • Supporting our investment and property teams with investment and divestment transactions, lease documentation, land sales, construction contracts
  • Act as Company Secretary for group subsidiaries – property development and holding companies
  • Manage external legal engagements
  • Policy review and drafting
  • Helping to grow the maturity of our legal, risk and compliance systems, processes and reporting

What’s important to us?

  • Qualified lawyer with NZ practising certificate
  • 4+ years legal experience gained in private practice or in-house
  • Sound communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and succinctly
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and make confident decisions
  • An approachable, positive and enthusiastic attitude
