He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council is seeking a Specialist Corporate Communications and Media who is keen to work collaboratively across the Auckland Council and who can deliver a range of communication and stakeholder services.

The Corporate Communications and Media team is part of the Public Affairs unit which is responsible for managing communication activity and relationships that affect council reputation across the public and political interface, and engaging with news media. Reporting to a Corporate Communications and Media Team Leader, this role will be responsible for establishing and developing strong effective relationships with journalists, sector groups and partners on key council priorities.

 

This role is pivotal in communicating the business of the council to the public and a wide range of stakeholders.

• Prepare and deliver communications plans for an interesting portfolio of projects.


• Work with your colleagues to manage issues, deliver on our communications strategy and enhance our reputation.


• Manage day-to-day media inquiries and contribute to our media relations strategy.


• Help tell the council’s story, including how decisions are made.


• This role includes some on-call media duties.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will have proven relevant experience in communications or PR with experience in delivering communications strategy and reputational advice. While you might not have worked in local government before, familiarity with advising senior managers or directors is essential, as is experience in working with the media and supporting media relations. With a relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations or a related field, you will be able to listen and understand while also being confident in providing advice, feedback or your own point of view.

You will have influencing skills at a range of levels, personal resilience and the skills to build positive, open relationships across a dynamic, challenging and complex environment.

This is a fast-paced and exciting role. Deadlines, pressure and competing priorities all come with the job. Experience working in a large and diverse team, and being prepared to collaborate with others, is highly desirable. This role will stretch you, challenge you and reward you, in equal measure.

Salary: $91,027 - $107,090 depending on experience
