Mō te tūnga | About the role

The New Zealand Financial Intelligence Unit (NZFIU) is a key part of the detection, prevention and investigation of a range of serious criminal offences, including money laundering, the financing of terrorism, proliferation financing and breaches of international law.  We receive a vast amount of information from the private sector that provides leads and support to investigations across multiple domestic and international agencies.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Strategic Intelligence Supervisor to lead a high-performing team within the NZFIU. In this leadership role, you’ll drive strategic intelligence, influence national AML/CFT priorities, and contribute to policy and regulatory change—helping keep New Zealand communities safe from serious financial crime.

As the Strategic Intelligence Supervisor, you will lead and deliver strategic intelligence capability within the NZFIU. This includes overseeing research and analysis, producing national-level intelligence products and risk assessments, and provide expert advice across government and industry.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver strategic intelligence and risk assessments relating to money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing

  • Deliver the AML/CFT National Risk Assessment (NRA) to inform the public of the risks posed by money laundering, proliferation and terrorism risks to NZ

  • Inform potential legislative, policy, and regulatory changes in partnership with policy groups in Police and AML/CFT partner agencies

  • Build strong partnerships across government, industry, and international networks

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality intelligence outputs

  • Strong understanding of AML/CFT frameworks, financial crime risks, and regulatory environments

  • Ability to translate complex intelligence into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers
