Support Worker


We are looking for fill a casual position in our team. An emotional intelligence individual who is passionate and have deep empathy about empowering & enabling whanau to have a greater choice and control in their lives!

About the role | Mō te tūranga



  • As a support worker you will be a part of a supportive team that provides support, promotes positive wellbeing and works alongside people to achieve their personal recovery goals. You will bring your life experiences and knowledge to support people on their personal recovery journey. This may include daily living skills, structure and routine, group facilitation and goal setting.


Duties | Mahi



  • Respecting and promoting the tino rangatiratanga of the people you are supporting at all times

  • Work in partnership with residents to identify strengths and goals

  • Support residents with daily tasks and activities

  • Support residents to connect with their whānau and culture as required

  • Work as part of a team and share your knowledge to build the collective wisdom of the Mental Health & Addictions team 

  • Communicate effectively with your colleagues, the team and wider stakeholders

  • Participate in reflection sessions with the team or in supervision to continually develop your practice

  • Maintain relevant, timely and accurate documentation at all times

  • Maintain relevant, timely and accurate electronic notes and handover reports

  • Effectively navigate the Residential Virtual Board to ensure that communication is consistent and accurate

  • Elevate risks and concerns to Team Leader, Peer Leader or Clinical Team when required.


Skills & Experience | Pukenga & wheako


Essential:



  • Previous experience in working within the Mental Health and Addictions environment.

  • Evidence of successful experience of working from a recovery, competency-based, solution focused framework.

  • Understanding of Supported Accommodation for service users under the care of Mental Health and Addictions.

  • Ability to network effectively with local community groups and statutory agencies.

  • Ability to work alongside statutory agencies, e.g. WINZ, Housing NZ

  • Understanding of and commitment to the implementation of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi into practice.

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent and relevant work experience in Support Work.

  • An ability to work within a strengths-based framework.

  • Well-developed assessment and report writing skills.

  • Must be Computer literate.

  • Demonstrates a high level of professional knowledge appropriate for the role, including analytical, conceptual, and writing skills

  • Proven organizational and effective time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and also part of a team including externally

  • Ability to build and manage effective teams to facilitate ‘start-up’ projects

  • Has developed relationship-building skills grounded in a respectful approach, integrity and trustworthiness

  • Is respectful of everyone’s ideas and does not prejudge

  • Is able to identify and analyze problems or challenges, developing processes or strategies to enable effective and timely solutions

  • Demonstrates sound decision-making and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. 

  • Successfully plans and schedules own time, working to meet expected outcomes and timelines

  • Knowledge of Te Reo me o nga Tikanga

  • A current full driver’s license preferred
