About the Role

Permanent: Monday to Friday, 9.00am-3.00pm.

Are you a warm, practical, and compassionate support worker who wants to make a meaningful difference for women and whānau in our community?

Christchurch City Mission is looking for a Support Worker to join our Wahine Whai Ora programme. This role provides day-to-day practical and emotional support to women and whānau engaged with the programme, helping create a safe, welcoming, and mana-enhancing environment where people feel respected, supported, and able to work towards positive life change.

Working alongside clinical and case management staff, you will provide non-clinical support that contributes to coordinated, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care. You will build positive relationships, support programme activities, monitor client wellbeing, and help women stay connected to their goals, routines, and support networks.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing practical and emotional support to women accessing the Wahine Whai Ora programme.


• Building positive, respectful, and professional relationships with clients and whānau.


• Supporting clients to engage in programme activities, groups, routines, and goal-setting.


• Contributing to a safe, calm, welcoming, and therapeutic environment.
  


• Helping ensure support is coordinated, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and mana-enhancing.

About You

You’ll be someone who brings warmth, patience, good judgement, and a genuine commitment to supporting people with dignity and respect. You will be confident working with people who may be experiencing complex challenges, and you will understand the importance of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and calm, practical support.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Experience working alongside people with complex needs, including mental health, addiction, trauma, homelessness, or social disadvantage.


• Experience in health, social services, community support, or a related setting.


• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.


• The ability to stay calm and respond effectively in challenging situations.


• An understanding of addiction, mental health, trauma, recovery, and community support networks.


• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ongoing cultural development.


• A Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, or equivalent experience.


• A full New Zealand driver’s licence.
