Job Description - System Technician

Company Description

Ko wai mātou | About us

At Contact, we’re more than just an energy company—we’re a team of people who care deeply about Aotearoa’s future. We’re committed to creating a more sustainable, low-carbon world, and we know that starts right here at home. Our kaupapa is grounded in kaitiakitanga—guardianship of our environment—and we’re proud to be leading the charge in renewable energy.

One of the most exciting parts of our journey is our investment in geothermal energy. With major projects like Tauhara underway and more in the pipeline, we’re tapping into the power of the whenua to deliver clean, reliable energy. These projects are bold, innovative, and built on strong partnerships with iwi and local communities. Now, we’re looking for passionate people to help us bring them to life.

Job Description

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

This role is all about keeping our geothermal sites humming—safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Reporting to the Site Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll be part of a tight-knit maintenance team responsible for maintaining and optimising our control and instrumentation systems. From calibrating field devices and monitoring system performance to coaching others and contributing to maintenance strategies, your mahi will directly support the reliability of our plant and the safety of our people.

You’ll also play a key role in ensuring we meet our HSE obligations, respond to operational challenges, and continuously improve how we work. Whether you’re updating plant documentation, supervising contractors, or jumping in to support other sites, you’ll be making a real difference every day. If you’re someone who thrives on variety, problem-solving, and being part of something bigger, this could be your next big move.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you

You might be a seasoned technician or a skilled tradie with a knack for control systems—either way, you’re someone who takes pride in your work and cares about doing things the right way. Ideally, you’ll bring a relevant trade certificate or diploma, along with experience in maintaining electrical, control, and instrumentation systems. If you’ve worked with SCADA, PLCs, or hazardous area equipment, that’s a bonus—but not a dealbreaker.

What really sets you apart is your attitude. You’re safety-conscious, solutions-focused, and always keen to learn. You’re great at working with others, whether that’s mentoring a teammate, liaising with contractors, or collaborating across teams. You don’t need to tick every box to apply—if you’re curious, capable, and committed to helping Aotearoa move towards a more sustainable future, we’d love to kōrero with you.

Additional Information

There are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi. Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, you’ll enjoy flexible working, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, bi-annual payments towards Contact Energy products, and more!

Applications for this role will close 5pm Friday the 13th of June 2025

Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.
