Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NewZealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. We have afocus on growth, learning and collaboration. You will be joining a nationwideteamand you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering highquality education and services to DHH students and the whānauwe support. We have 12 provisions (satellite teams) based in primary andsecondary schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

We are in search of either a Qualified Teacherof the Deaf or an experienced New Zealand registered classroom teacher who hasin-depth understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and assessment tools. This is a permanent, fulltime role.

In this role:

  • Our class sizesare small, ranging from 2 – 7 students per class group
  • You will be ateacher with the right skills and attitude who can work with a range of DHH students across all communication modes (including NewZealand Sign Language (NZSL) and spoken English) and in varying learning contexts
  • You will workwithin a Deaf Provision Teaching Team, which includes Teachers and TeacherAides of the Deaf, with access to other specialists as required
  • Your strongknowledge of the NZ Curriculum means you will have the ability to adapt thecurriculum to primarily focus on literacy and numeracy with our young students

Applications will be considered from teachers with recent knowledgeand understanding of the core business of lifting student achievement andwellbeing. Prior experience working with DHH students is desirable. Ifrequired, we will support you to develop anawareness of Deaf Culture andthe Deaf community. Proficiency in NZSL - or astrong commitment to learning NZSL is essential.
