Te Tūranga | About the role
As a Team Leader: Commercial Legal you'll be focused on enabling Council to meet its strategic objectives by providing solution focused legal advice and to help the Council comply with the law and mitigate its legal risks.
In this unique role, you will be responsible for a team of five that elevates and becomes the front-end advisory service for the organisation - where you will be a deal-maker and trusted business source to the senior leadership of council.
Key areas of this role are:
- You'll be providing legal advice across aspects of commercial (including procurement) contracts, technology, health and safety and operation of the Council.
- A large part of this role lies in relationship building and knowledge sharing with stakeholders both internally and externally.
- It is imperative that as a Team Leader you provide support, coaching and mentorship to your team, setting clear objectives and assisting in overcome roadblocks.
Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized New Zealand law school.
- Current New Zealand Law Society Practising Certificate.
- Ideally 10+ years of post-qualification experience across aspects of commercial (including procurement) contracts, technology, health and safety, privacy and the operation of the council.
- Experience in actively managing the legal risk profile of an organisation in a large and complex environment.
- Proven ability to exercise judgement and negotiate commercially focussed outcomes.
- An understanding of the statutory overlay that applies to Local Authorities.
- The ability to connect effectively with colleagues in an environment where there is overlap between the work that the teams do.
- Possess a deep understanding of business operations and market dynamics.
- Experience in team management, coaching and mentoring.
