Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for a dynamic Team Manager to join our Safer Vehicles team to support the Manager Safer Vehicles to embed a culture of regulatory excellence through education, advice, deterrence and enforcement whilst still conducting audit activities in the field.
This role has operational responsibilities for overseeing day to day work programme and activities, workflow planning, file management and quality control. Along with driving innovation for continuous improvement and the development and re-development of auditing systems & processes.
You will lead the team ensuring that their performance, development and wellbeing contribute to a high performing team, passionate about achieving organisational goals, building stakeholder confidence and providing a great experience for users. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and concurrently manage ambitious stakeholder demands, and deal with ambiguity.
Apply strategic and lateral problem solving, system thinking and the appropriate management controls to drive delivery in a complex, shifting environment.

Qualifications:
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Being a real-world regulator means we take a systems view that is focused on improving safety outcomes and reducing harm, we work to understand why people behave the way they do and are pragmatic in how we respond, we encourage and educate to support people to comply and enforce compliance when necessary.
The Vehicle and Driver Licensing team are the gatekeepers for assessing safety and harm of entering vehicle and driver licence holders, course providers, and inspecting organisations into the land transport system. We audit, monitor and exit any unsafe party from the land transport system.
