Team Member, Lifeguard | Albany Stadium Pool


He angitūtanga: The opportunity


 


Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.


Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.


 


As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:



  • Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.

  • Educating and enforcing pool rules.

  • Responding to any First Aid emergencies.

  • Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.


 


We are looking to fill permanent part-time and full-time positions (19-hour and 40-hour). Please note that these roles have fixed rosters, and shifts cannot be adjusted. As such, we’re ideally seeking candidates who are able to commit to the advertised schedule.

 


  • 19-hr: Monday (7:30am-4pm), Tuesday (1:30pm-10pm), and Wednesday (4pm-7pm)

  • 40-hr: Sunday (11am-7:30pm), Monday (1:30pm-10pm), Tuesday (7:30am-4pm), Wednesday & Thursday (5am-1:30pm)


 


You will be required to attend the following training dates. Monday to Friday at West Wave, 8am-4pm:



  • 06/07/2026 – 17/07/2026


 


He kōrero mōu: About you


 


We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).



 



  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes 

  • Swim 25m sidestroke

  • Swim 50m breaststroke

  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool 

  • Tread water for 5 minutes
