Theatre Admin/Technician Assistant
Buller District Council | Westport, New Zealand
30 hours per week | additional hours may be required to cover busy periods and staff leave Rostered across
Monday – Sunday, including evenings and weekends

What Will You Do? | Ka aha koe?


In this hands-on, varied role, you’ll work closely with our Theatre Manager, audiences, and stakeholders to increase visibility and usage of our theatre and cinema spaces, ensuring they remain welcoming, inclusive and buzzing with life.
Key Responsibilities include:


• Customer Service & Administration: From ticketing and bookings to liaising with promoters, managing cash handling, and handling general enquiries with professionalism and care.


• Technical Theatre & Cinema Operations: Delivering lighting, sound, and projection support for live shows, events and screenings. You'll also manage movie scheduling and playlists and help train others in technical operations.


• Food & Beverage Sales: Supporting the onsite shop with food handling, stock control, and licensed alcohol service.


• Community Engagement: Leading our digital and in-person promotional efforts including weekly radio interviews, poster drops, newsletters, and social media content.


• Facility Cleaning Duties: Helping maintain our venues to a high standard — ensuring they are clean, welcoming and event-ready at all times.



Who Are You? | Ko wai koe?


We’re seeking someone with:


• Previous experience in a customer service, reception, or call centre environment


• Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills


• Strong computer literacy and administrative capabilities


• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to problem-solving


• A positive, can-do attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement


Desired skills:


• Experience with lighting/sound systems and digital consoles


• Familiarity or a desire to learn cinema projection and scheduling (e.g. Veezi, KDMs)


• Knowledge of Health & Safety, especially in event environments


• Duty Manager Licence and Working at Heights certification, or the ability to obtain these
