Awanui Labs Blenheim (previously known as Medlab South) provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, healthcare professionals and their patients. Awanui Labs Blenheim is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.


Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.


About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Trainee or Qualified Phlebotomist to join our Bleinhelm Laboratory team. This is a casual position with no set hours or days of work.


Responsibilities:



  • The key tasks include blood collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing specimens for transportation.

  • Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

To succeed in this role you will need:



  • A positive and friendly approach to your work and demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity.

  • Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.

  • Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.

  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.

  • Respect for ensuring patient confidentiality at all times and in all matters.

  • Good computer skills.

  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Patient Services is desirable, but not essential.

  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
