The Role:
About You:
A relevant qualification must be required - social work, youth work, health, teaching or Human Services (level 6 minimum) – exceptions may be made for people with significant relevant youth or social work experience.
Must be based in New Zealand.
Non-judgmental, resilient and persistent in their approaches to providing support.
An understanding of the impact of trauma in adolescent brain development and youth development approaches.
Ability to build rapport and trust with young people and whanau.
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with professionals to support access to services for young people.
Understanding of disability, mental health, substance abuse and the impact these can have only on a young person's life.
Cultural competency and demonstrable knowledge and skill about kaupapa Maori and Pasifika protocols.
Behaviour management or conflict resolution skills.
The ability to speak Maori or another Pasifika language would be an advantage.
Tuilaepa Youth Mentoring Service Trust (TYMS) is a specialised Not-for-profit organisation that provides intensive support services for young people who have complex behaviours and/or mental health needs. Our innovative approach combines evidence-based practice models with a focus on our core Pacific values. TYMS supports and nurtures primarily Pasifika and Māori young people but works with all ethnicities.
