The opportunity

  • Broad exposure to varying types of commercial underwriting ranging from commercial property, commercial motor, and liability along with marine and engineering risks.

Your new role

Newly created role due to growth in the business in our lower South Island portfolio. You will oversee and manage the commercial portfolio with key areas being:

  • Contributing to the overall strategy, planning and execution of policies, product plan and outcomes of portfolio balance
  • Underwrite standard and complex risk business in accordance with the business plan, guidelines within individual earned or delegated underwriting authority.
  • Develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide oversight and support to achieve growth via quotes, management of renewals, policy maintenance, problem solving and relationship building with intermediaries.
  • There will be some travel to our key Broker Partners.

About you

You are comfortable with partnering with Regional Broker groups & developing positive relationships. You will:

  • Be a natural communicator with the ability to form business partnering relationships.
  • Have a technical foundation within underwriting. 
  • Experience in commercial underwriting would be preferred.
  • Show an appetite to learn and be confident in knowing and doing the right thing within QBE values and systems.
  • Have ability to negotiate & influence.
  • Be analytical and enjoy problem-solving.
