UX/UI Designer

Job Description - UX/UI Designer

  • Help manage one of NZ’s largest networks, supporting 25% of the country’s daytime business internet traffic

  • Get hands-on with diverse technologies in a complex, multi-vendor environment.

  • 21 Month Fixed Term Contract

About Us

Network for Learning (N4L) is a Crown-owned technology company that provides faster, safer internet for Aotearoa New Zealand’s schools and kura.

But we’re so much more than that.

We’re focused on building a better tomorrow through innovation

We use diverse technologies to take a creative approach to delivering meaningful outcomes for schools and kura.

The role:

You will be a storyteller who brings the user experience to life, ensuring the "why" behind every design is just as clear as the "how." You will champion the human side of our technology, turning abstract concepts into a vision that inspires the team and puts the customer at the heart of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate self-service digital strategy into practical, human-centered design vision and artefacts.

  • Develop and maintain design systems, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mock-ups for new features.

  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and A/B testing to uncover friction points and gather insights.

  • Use analytics and data to continuously optimise usability, content architecture, and design performance.

  • Act as a trusted design advisor to stakeholders, translating complex requirements into simple, elegant solutions

What you will need to be successful:

  • Proven experience as a UX/UI Designer focused on digital product design or self-service portals.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating wireframing, prototyping (Figma, Sketch, or similar), and design systems.

  • You have a demonstrated ability to use analytics and customer insights to inform design decisions.

  • You can articulate design rationale clearly to non-designers and senior leadership.

  • Experience designing for knowledge management portals, customer service portals, or e-commerce journeys is desirable.

Why work for N4L?

We are a team that values succeeding together and making it smart and simple for others. You will be working in a hybrid environment where we encourage our people to explore, experiment and reach for better
