The Opportunity | Te āheinga


We’re looking for a passionate and forward‑thinking Water Conservation Officer to join our Three Waters Operations team on a 2‑year fixed-term contract starting April/May 2026. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of sustainable water use across our district and play a key role in protecting one of our most important resources.


 


In this role, you will lead, promote, and implement district‑wide water conservation initiatives that drive meaningful community, environmental and operational outcomes. With a strong strategic focus, you’ll help optimise water usage through advanced metering, data analytics and targeted community engagement, ensuring our practices support long-term resilience and smart water management.


 


You’ll champion innovation, explore new technologies and foster continuous improvement to help our district adapt to changing needs and expectations. Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua



  • Advise and educate customers on water‑saving technologies, practices and metering benefits

  • Conduct water audits and use meter data to recommend effective conservation measures

  • Manage service requests and provide technical information to customers

  • Lead district‑wide water conservation initiatives and innovation projects

  • Oversee selection, installation, maintenance and lifecycle management of water meters

  • Analyse meter data to identify trends, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement

  • Collaborate with internal teams to align metering and conservation with wider infrastructure and sustainability strategies

  • Manage contractors delivering water conservation and metering projects

  • Ensure legislative, policy, sustainability and data‑privacy compliance across all activities


 


 


Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako



  • NZ Certificate in Plumbing, Drain laying, or Water Services (or equivalent Level 4 qualification)

  • 5+ years’ experience in plumbing, water conservation, or related fields, with demonstrated experience in water meter management or data analytics.

  • Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and deliver measurable outcomes in sustainability and water efficiency.
