Job Description - Social Worker Christchurch Hospital

  • Three positions available across the Social Work Team at Christchurch Hospital:
    • Permanent full time 1.0FTE (likely to be based in ICU)
    • Fixed term full time 1.0FTE position available through to 18th October 2024
    • Fixed term part time 0.8FTE (32hours per week) through to 19th November 2024
  • Registration with the NZ Social Work Board and Annual Practicing Certificate is essential

Mō te tūnga About the Role

Our team is a professional and highly skilled Social Work team, who display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for health social work.  We enjoy the challenge of delivering patient centred care in a fluid and dynamic multidisciplinary environment.  We respond to a diverse range of health and social needs, no two days are the same. We provide 24-hour social work service 7 days a week, as part of a multidisciplinary team who take a holistic approach to patient care. We work across all areas of the hospital with the multidisciplinary team to support patients’ and their whānau's health journey from admission to discharge. These are rostered and rotating positions. 

The Social Work Services team at Christchurch Hospital is inviting applications from Registered Social Workers to join our team in multiple opportunities. 

Ko wai koe | About You

You will be joining our supportive and enthusiastic Social Work team. You will thrive in an unpredictable and at fast paced environment. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessment, monitoring and support of clients within the acute social work service in accordance with ANZASW Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • You will need strong assessment and triaging skills to meet patient needs.
  • Attend and participate in social work team and departmental activities as well as staff meetings.
  • Participate in service development and quality assurance initiative/processes.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

Desired skills will include:

  • A passion for working with people and their whānau/families.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life.
  • Experience within, Elderly, Care and Protection, Family Harm, and Trauma, is desirable but not essential.
  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate issued under the Social Worker’s Registration Act (2003) is essential.
