We are excited to announce the opening of our state-of-the-art Recreation Centre in late 2024, a hub for sport, health and wellbeing on our campus. As we embark on this new chapter, we are seeking an experienced Aquatics Team Leader .     

The Aquatics Team Leader will be pivotal in the University Recreation Centre's aquatics team. You will be responsible for assisting the Aquatics Manager in the daily operations and programming of aquatic facilities, ensuring patron safety, managing staff, coordinating programs, and maintaining a positive environment. 

You will also uphold the highest standards of aquatic safety, customer service, and program excellence, ensuring safe, efficient, and enjoyable aquatic facilities and services. 

The main responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Lifeguard Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise 6 direct reports and casual team 
  • Aquatic Facility Oversight: Manage the daily operations of all aquatic facilities, including the monitoring of pool water quality, chemical balance, and general facility cleanliness. 
  • Aquatic Program Coordination: Support developing and implementing a diverse schedule of aquatic programmes, classes, and events. 
  • Customer Service and Communication: Provide exceptional customer service by responding to patrons' inquiries, concerns, and feedback. 

This is an opportunity to work hands-on and shape the aquatic facilities at our world-class institution while ensuring the safe, efficient, and enjoyable operation of our facilities, programmes, and services.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), permanent role working Monday to Friday.  The successful candidate may at times, be required to work flexible hours (including some evenings and weekends) due to the nature of the business hours and operational requirements that the role entails (i.e supporting event logistics and maintenance work etc).  The salary range for this role is $73,400 to $84,700, depending on skills and experience.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for pools, customer experience, a commitment to health and safety, and a dedication to developing a team that provides a positive and inclusive environment for all members of the university community. 

They will also bring the following skills and experience: 

  • Relevant Sport and Recreation or management qualification or experience in a similar role Team Leader position 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Pool Lifeguarding 
  • Current or previous Lifeguard, Water Safety, or Water treatment certification from a recognised organisation including experience managing a pool plant, water quality and facility maintenance experience.   
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
