The Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) Scheme has provided a free and independent dispute resolution service for 27 years. Each year, about 3,000 people contact the IFSO Scheme with enquiries or complaints about insurance and financial services.

The IFSO Scheme membership comprises approximately 4,500 participants, who are providers of insurance, financial advice, superannuation and investments, loans and credit, foreign exchange and money transfer services. Together with complaint resolution, the IFSO Scheme prioritises prevention, education and accessibility initiatives.

Reporting to the Ombudsman, you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering the IFSO Scheme communications strategy. High-level objectives are to increase awareness, accessibility, and engagement, and develop education and prevention initiatives.

Managing and protecting the reputation of the IFSO Scheme is key, which involves seeking promotion and awareness opportunities, managing risk, and maintaining independence.

This is a varied and busy role that will draw on your strategic communications experience, as well as your content writing, social media and relationship management skills. Your ability to use your initiative, communicate effectively and foster good working relationships and work effectively across the organisation will be the true measure of how successful you’ll be in this role.

This is a permanent position, based on The Terrace, Wellington Central. Applications will be considered from those seeking anywhere from three days per week to full time.

The IFSO Scheme is a truly flexible employer, and once the “training wheels” have come off, you’ll be able to structure your week to suit, and will be provided with the necessary tools to work from home as needed.

Person Profile:

  • A tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in communications and public relations
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality and effective communications initiatives
  • Demonstrated strategic planning capabilities and the ability to advise at a strategic level
  • Knowledge of all aspects of digital communication and social media
  • A confident communicator and writer with well-developed written and oral communications skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-management and ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Display a responsive, professional, open and enthusiastic manner
  • Computer literate and proficient with MS Office Suite and social media (Facebook and LinkedIn)
