Job Description - FUTURE NETWORK AND PLANNING ENGINEER

AUCKLAND BASED

Horizon Networks is an Electricity Distribution Company operating throughout the Eastern Bay of Plenty region.

Horizon Networks, based in Whakatane is recruiting for a self-motivated individual to fill the Future Network and Planning Engineer position on a full-time and permanent basis in our Auckland branch.

Reporting to the Future Network and Planning Manager, the Future Network and Planning Engineer will be responsible to:

  • Support Horizon with adopting new technologies and tools to meet the challenges of electrification and climate change through the development of scenarios and impact assessments, ‘non-traditional' solutions first mindset, trailing new technologies and solutions, and developing ‘least-regret' solutions that allow Horizon to pivot quickly when required.
  • Conduct network planning and regulatory activities including but not limited to forecasts, network model development and improvement, prepare the 10-year plan, facilitate and prepare Asset Management Plan, cost of supply inputs, loss factors calculation, and prepare project justification papers.
  • Conduct engineering studies and develop solutions for new connections or alternations to existing connections.
  • Deliver engineering regulation functions, including but not limited to Asset Management Plan, loss factors, information disclosures, cost of supply, information requests from external parties such as Transpower, EEA, ENA, Councils, and third parties.
  • Deliver the annual planning process and develop optimised investment plans through robust risk and cost/benefit analysis
  • Support the business with retaining various certifications including but not limited to ISO 55001, ISO 45001, NZS 7901, and ISO 9001

To be successful a candidate will require the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor or post-graduate qualification in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or engineering science discipline
  • Over 3 years experience in electricity transmission or distribution sectors
  • Experience in distribution or transmission planning
  • Experience in connection studies and integration of distributed energy resources
  • Proficient in power system analysis and network modelling using DigSILENT Power Factory or similar
  • Solid background in power systems analysis, faults analysis, and protection
  • Demonstrated experience in programming and big data analysis
  • Understanding of regulations and rules in New Zealand electricity distribution industry
  • Strong commercial, financial, and risk management skills
  • Familiarity with the principles of risk management and investment decision-making
