Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We have an exciting opening for an Employment Relations Specialist to join our team. You will work with our Employment Relations Manager within the supportive and well respected HR Advisory / Ranga Pūmanawa Tangata team, who provide a professional partnership with academic faculties and service divisions to enable the University to deliver on its people and culture priorities.

Reporting to the Employment Relations Manager you will advance the University’s ER strategy in support of the University’s vision and strategic plan, Taumata Teitei . With a collaborative and engaging working style, you will engage with unions and oversee a variety of employment relations issues. Success will be measured through your ability to effectively coach and support HR colleagues and University leaders with complex employment relations issues to mitigate risk and achieve results. You will provide expertise across all areas of employment relations and work proactively to continuously improve employment relations processes and practice.
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), have sound knowledge of relevant employment legislation and experience of working effectively with HR, leaders, unions and staff on issues affecting a large complex organisation.
Strong stakeholder management and analytical thinking skills, along with a keen eye for detail are key requirements of the job. You will also have experience supporting problem-solving processes, including mediation and settlement negotiations.
